About Suzanne - Good Food for Great Dogs

In another life, Suzanne T. Smith was a real rocket scientist (Google “Project Rover” to read about the nuclear rocket program). Although she had a 30-year professional career as a research scientist, her first love has always been dogs and dog breeding. Her scientific background, combined with her love of dogs and gourmet cooking, has led her to research and write about the very latest information about dog nutrition and health.

Suzanne has owned, loved, bred, and shown Standard Schnauzers for over forty years, and she’s an AKC Breeder of Merit. She writes a quarterly column for the prestigious AKC Gazette, and she is the author of nine books, co-author of two others, and author over 200 articles in magazines, journals, and newspapers. Two of her cookbooks, Cooking for Your Dog and Cooking with Lavender, are award winners.

Suzanne’s current project is a four-part series of Kindle e-books titled Good Food for Great Dogs. The first part, subtitled Busting the Dog Food Myths–Secrets of Canine Nutrition, will soon be released on Amazon.com. The series is a guide to help you feed your healthy dog better meals and treats that are good for him, while learning about the nutrients—proteins, fats, carbohydrates, water, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements—your dog needs to stay healthy. Included in the books, you’ll find many good dog food recipes to help you reach that goal, even some recipes your great dog might be willing to share with you.

The blog on her website, GoodFoodGreatDogs.com, will have posts to discuss the many facets of life with dogs: their care, feeding, training, safety, recalls, health, grooming, and showing. Suzanne includes recipes for healthy dog food and treats, dog product reviews, fun activities you can enjoy with your dog, entertaining stories from her many years “in dogs,” and many other doggy topics.

These days in between several writing projects, Suzanne breeds, trains, grooms, and plays with her dogs, and travels the country in a big RV with her husband, Ron, and their dogs, who always love “to go” as they grudgingly consent to be exhibited in random dog shows and compete in assorted obedience trials rally trials, and Barn Hunts. In her copious spare time ;-D, she cooks and tries out new recipes; grows orchids, roses, herbs, and vegetables; play classical piano; and indulges in assorted needlework and sewing projects, all watched with great interest and frequent attempted participation by her pack of dogs.
